About the event

Together, we will map the nests, rescue fallen chicks, read the rings, keep a watch on illegal nest destructions and look at Tromsø city center from an orignal perspective.

How do people in Tromsø coexist with a highly endangered species that finds refuge in the city center during the nesting season? That's what you will find out if you join this easy walk.

For a few hours, you will join the Kittiwalkers, a group of people who believe that coexistence is possible. You will use a mobile app to survey the nests, record how many adult birds hang out around the colonies, how many chicks are in the nests, and identify individuals marked with a plastic ring. We will finish the walk at the kittiwake hotels, artistic structures desigend to lure kittiwakes away from buildings to reduce perceived nuisance and facilitate coexistence.
